DrupalCon Nashville Recap

Where one-third of our company presented!

It’s hard to believe DrupalCon Nashville was over a month ago! We have been busy here at Chromatic ever since, but we wanted to give a recap of the conference from our point of view.

Monday

Monday was a day of summits! Alanna attended the non-profit summit, which is always an informative and enjoyable day. She came away with some insights on accessibility and working with RFPs. Adam and Alfonso attended the decoupled Drupal summit, during which they learned how others in the industry are tackling many of the same challenges they’ve faced working on a multi-site decoupled platform for one of our publishing clients. Clare went to the Higher Education summit where she listened to the pain points of universities trying to upgrade their hundreds (thousands?) of sites to Drupal 8.

We went out for a great team dinner at Skull’s Rainbow Room, enjoyed some cocktails, live music, and amazing food, and caught up on the day.

Tuesday

Tuesday the sessions began, and it was a huge day for Chromatic! We had a third of our company presenting this year!

We kicked it off with Alanna giving “Women in the Tech Workplace” and a rousing Q&A.

Next up was Chris giving his first DrupalCon session, “So You Want To Start Your Own Digital Agency?” which was a huge hit.

The afternoon continued with Mart delivering “Drupal 8 Cache API and Tacos - a Delicious Real-World Example!” (Sadly, this video isn't available, but the slides are!)

The last Chromatic session of the day was Gus with “Everybody Loves Performance: Easy Audits and Low-Hanging Fruit.

Tuesday also included a BoF led by Adam and Alfonso, “Decoupling Drupal.” Developers of varying levels of experience with decoupled architectures shared some of their struggles while others shared insights and lessons learned.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, Kim ran a really fun BoF, “Stranger than Fiction: Life + Work Lessons from in Pop Culture.”

Alanna was part of two panels, both of which were really well-received and productive. First up was the “Community Convos: Governance Retrospective” panel:

Next up was the “Community Convos: Drupal Diversity & Inclusion” panel. Both of these had excellent discussions.

Thursday

Thursday we had our final Chromatic session, with Ryan giving a blow-your-hair-back talk on “Ethereum and React: An introduction to building your first web dApp.”

After the closing session on Thursday, we met back up for dinner, drinks, team bonding, and some much-needed relaxing! It was a busy, fun, and productive week.
