Most of you reading this know that Chromatic is a distributed team with no centralized offices. This means that we have team members living all around the globe, and that we travel a decent amount. The whole team enjoys great food. In Slack, we have a #recipes
channel to share recipes with each other for the food that we enjoy. We have recommendations for places to eat in most major cities (and some in the middle of nowhere); all with wonderful food.
After one trip, Larry and I were traveling back from the airport in Chicago discussing “the list”: a list of my recommendations of restaurants that he and his girlfriend, now fiancée, should try in Chicago. My favorites from the last ten plus years of living in the city. We decided this would be a perfect ongoing blog series.
Our goal is to share recommendations from the travel Chromatic does, the cities we live in and from our friends in other places. We’ll share a handful of recommendations each month.
Since this is the 1.0 post and the primer to the series, I’ll give you a couple of “local” (Chicago) recommendations:
- The Winchester - The Winchester is an American Bistro in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood of Chicago. We love it because the menu is always changing, the staff is always friendly and the space feels nice to be in.
- Place to meet clients: Yes
- Date night: Yes
- Group of friends, colleagues: Yes
- Recommended meal time: Brunch, Dinner
- Price: $$
- Publican Quality Meats - Publican Quality Meats is a butcher shop, neighborhood café, bakery and gourmet market, aptly located in the booming Fulton Market area. The location paired with the food is why PQM is so fantastic, there is plenty in the area and the sandwiches are some of the best you’ll find in Chicago. We highly recommend sitting outside when the weather permits.
