Team Building

Life Outside of Work

We know that different employees have different needs. That’s why we offer ample sick and flex time, generous parental leave, and half-day Fridays, so you can make your schedule fit your life.

  • We provide five days a year for sick leave, but we will never deny or question time off devoted to health—physical, mental, or spiritual.
  • We provide eight consecutive weeks of paid time off (with continued benefits) for parental leave for primary caregivers and four consecutive weeks for secondary caregivers.
  • Where time off doesn’t neatly fall into the categories above, paid time off (PTO) swoops in to ensure you get the time you need. PTO is accrued on a monthly basis (starting at 1.25 days/month, and increasing based on tenure).
  • After seven years at Chromatic, we encourage employees to take a one-month paid sabbatical, and provide a $5,000 stipend to go along with it. The benefit repeats every five years thereafter.
  • Sometimes you just need time away from a screen. The Chromatic culture ensures this time is always available.
  • It’s an endless summer at Chromatic: all Fridays are half-days all year round.

100% Remote Work

We didn't just go 100% remote during the pandemic. We’ve been working 100% remotely from day one. Chromatic was born distributed and will always be distributed. No matter where you call home, you’ve got a place with us.

  • We invest the money we’d be spending on rent, maintenance, and office supplies right back into our employees.
  • Meetings help us align and move projects forward, but heads-down time is important too, so we have a meetings-free day once a month.
  • We respect working hours in different time zones. It’s always 5 o’clock somewhere, so we’ll toast to that.

Investment in Employees

Community matters to us, and so do our employees. We match 401K contributions and donations you make in your community, and we respect time off to volunteer.

  • We contribute 4% of your eligible annual income to a retirement plan—even if you choose not to contribute to it.
  • We’ll match your charitable donations up to $600 annually.
  • We’ll help clear your working schedule for volunteering efforts that can make a difference in your community.
  • We encourage you to continue your education via camps and conferences, and will finance your attendance when you are speaking, conducting training, and so on. If a Chromatic team is attending, attendance is fully covered, even if you’re not a speaker.
  • We provide a subscription budget of $150/year and a book budget of $50/year; this is in addition to hardware and software expenses, which are fully covered.

Improving Chromatic Together

Lots of companies say they’re open to new ideas. We mean it. At our annual retreat, we take votes on which new ideas to implement. That’s where we got half-day summer Fridays—and then half-day Fridays all year round.
