The Challenge

When Meredith Corporation acquired Shape.com it was already running on Drupal, but the way it had been architected did not align with how their other existing Drupal sites manage and deliver content. Chromatic joined the rebuild in the early stages, but with a tight timeline, there were less than 3 months until the launch deadline.

The Solution

Chromatic provided both front and back-end development, as well as mentorship. We helped reorganize the codebase to follow standards and best practices. A strict pull request workflow was also introduced. Furthermore, we provided heavy lifting in key areas such as content migration.

The Results

50% of the total development hours occurred in the final month, but the strict process and code reviews minimized the bugs that often occur in a tight deadline. Chromatic delivered a site more consistent for their editorial, advertising, and SEO teams. We also left their developers with a solid understanding of Drupal’s best practices.

I’ve worked with a lot of development houses over the years, and the Chromatic team is the definition of professional. They completely revamped our development workflow and perspective on how to build a Drupal site right.
